  1. I posted in reply to lil-minx92 that power supply in NI was at risk in case of no deal Brexit, with an anecdote that HMG was planning to set up generator barges last year, with an open query about what was the progress on that front: post 269, feel free to check. You then queried the NI power supply risk (beside other). I then linked you to HMG's own, official preparation notice on the topic. And now you're accusing me of making up a fake story about the barges, when it was a government leak all over the papers last year? Do you really think I need to invent stuff like that, with how you've been handling Brexit, and still are?
  2. A client of my charity has an email address that looks like this: 01142462396@talktalk.net (I've changed the numbers, but the email address is in this form). Possibly, the user had deliberately chosen that address, but is there any other reason it might be in that format? Does talktalk automatically give people email addresses like that? Thanks

    I Pad query

I Pad went into sleep mode as usual when I left it for a while, when I started it again it said activation required and to select the appropriate Wi-Fi network. When I selected my network it didn't ask for any router password details and said it could take several minutes, at this point I got a bit paranoid and switched off. Anybody else had this happen.

I broadly agree with you, and I'm no fan of religion; but I'd query the 'peaceful modern living' bit... Of course not in that peace is bad or anything; but rather, what is the real cost, that others have to pay, for us to enjoy our peaceful modern living? Not that you or I, are directly harming other people in other nations around the world; but what about our goverments and corporations who are the bed-rock of this peaceful modern life we enjoy? What impact do they have on those less fortunate living in less capable nations? Does the western world interfere in, destabalise or try to exploit other nations too weak to stand up to us?

    The right to defend yourself.

Then there must be more to the query, you must have more information. i will say you are allowed to defend your self, that as others have said, wrongly, it does not mean running away, neither does it mean going zombie on a attacker. However you have been wittiness in the first person to a individual committing a crime. You are empowered by reasonable force to detain the person till police arrive much the same force as a PCO has, indeed you have the same powers as a police officer. except the police have powers to detain before and after a fact, whilst a person can only do it during.
  9. Purely by chance, my husband came across this forum and your query about SMACHA. I was the last Secretary and my husband the last Treasurer of SMACHA when it closed in 2000. If you would like to follow up further information, please contact me at fosterann422@gmail.com.
  10. Hi. Does anyone know how to market a house without going through estate agents and paying extortionate fees? Any advice or tips greatly appreciated.

    rubbish fires

A bit of a query with black bins. Over the last few months I have now seen two residences with two black bins each. They are both outside on collection day boldly displayed with the house numbers, so what has happened, are you allowed two black bins now ?
  12. I have just submitted my road tax payment online to the official DVLA site. The form V11 stated £190 for the year. Upon submitting the payment it showed that £195 is demanded. Last year for the same car the same thing occurred, but I thought that the extra £5 was for the credit card transaction. But this year the credit card charge no longer exists. So what I am asking is. What is the extra £5 charge for? There is no explanation of extra cost on the form unless it is paid by direct debit. Can anybody explain please?
  13. Went to the DAMON’S at the weekend (Stephen’s birthday so we got a fake meal!). Anyone been recently and know where the Marilyn Monroe picture from the toilets / bogs area has gone? Bleedin spellchecker! It was a free meal not a fake meal!

  15. I have an Excel spreadsheet that looks like this: Column A Column B Item1 X Item2 Z Item3 X Item4 Y Item5 X Where the value in column B is X I would like the text in column A to be bold. I've tried the conditional formatting feature as follows: Cursor in cell A1 Create new ruie Select 'Use a formula t determine which cells are formatted' Enter formula: A2="X" Then click to set the format to Bold But this doesn't work? What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do? Thanks Graham ---------- Post added 23-02-2018 at 12:04 ---------- For clarity - my enquiry didn't format quite as I expected - the letters X Y Z are all in column B
  16. I want to email VM with a query about the frequent broadband outages I am experiencing. Their website offers me webchat (which is not open at times convenient to me) or phone contact (which I suspect will take hours). I can't find a simple email address on their website. Can anyone help?
  17. i noticed another UPS related thread went a bit wrong no longer alloows input which was unfortunately before it became useful. UPS sheffield is based on PRESIDENT WAY PRESIDENT PARK INDUSTRIAL ESTATE SHEFFIELD, SHEFFIELD S4 7LR Phone: 0845 787 787 7 a better non premium number they say is 0345 787 787 7 i found on ringing them that it was very difficult to explain my simple query ...where is the collection point... took me about 10 minutes before the presumably a man with what sounded like an asian/indian sounding accent who had excellent language skills but was seemingly unable to discern the meaning of what I said. put another way he heard what i said he knew what i said he could repeat what i said but was clearly not very experienced in understanding the meaning of what was said in english. the person that took the call said his name was john... i found that somewhat unlikley i hope that was well enough explained for the overly sensitive overly PC nut jobs that sometimes input on other people's posts with their usual feigned indignation. if you want to collect a parcel yourself they were' unable' to deliver you will have to ring (unfortunately) them as they have different points to do that from around the city and they are postcode based but you might be able to arrange something through their website if you prefer to do things online. they say you WILL NEED photo ID presumably a driving licence or passport AND a utility bill .... wherever you collect it from i hope this is useful
  18. Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum, so I may be posting this query in the wrong section. (sorry) Does any one know how I can 'clean up' the strap of 16 year old Quartz water resistant watch? Its been lying in a drawer for a few years and has a layer of something blue (dirt?) on it. Spoke with a jewellers who suggested scrubbing it with hot water and fairy liquid using a toothbrush, but that hasn't worked. Can any one help ? Thanks
  19. Hi. I am looking for stalls at forthcoming craft fayres and similar events . Calderdale taxi infestation

I’ve been asked this before and it’s no secret on here that I have been employed by SCC. I do not currently work for them. I know many of the highways, transport and parking people at SCC, so if I don’t know the answer to a query, I can often ask the right person and get a response. I think you’ll notice that I mainly comment on transport and highways matters as that is my field of expertise. I don’t know much about other areas of SCC operation, so tend not to comment on them. The Council keep the TRO’s. I don’t believe they are currrently available on line. In Sheffield, hackney cabs (taxis) can use bus lanes. So can private hire vehicles. This applies to all taxis and private hire irrespective of where they are licensed. Cabs do actually display a sticker on the side of the vehicle. As Lee correctly points out, this is a requirement stated in the traffic regulation order. This was put in to assist the Council with enforcement, so they can identify cabs in camera enforcement images. This was useful to some extent when enforcement was carried out by manually observed cameras. However, bus lane / gate enforcement in Sheffield is now carried out via automatic enforcement cameras, which read the number plate and have all Sheffield licensed Hackney’s and private hire on an exemption list. Out of town licensed cabs get a ticket first time they use an enforced bus lane, the ticket is cancelled if they provide valid license details. They are then put on the exemption list for the duration of their current license. It works this way in all local authorities as there is no central list of licensed Hackney’s and private hire vehicles for the whole country. The side mounted stickers are therefore not that much use anymore for enforcement.
  22. I need some advice please. A relative of mine has a child, teenage daughter whom could potentially do with speaking to a therapist/councilor (sp?) concerning a recent event in the girls life. From what I understand the local GP is worse than useless and quite unsympathetic so I said I would do what I can to help. I Googled the query but the results are a mishmash of adverts and wrong results so I thought I would turn to the forum. Any help would be greatly received. Thanks.
  23. About 3 weeks ago I bought an item from an eBay seller who prides himself by stating that if an order is received before 2pm, it will be sent 1st Class tracked the same day. To his credit, it was, but wasn't delivered on the day that was suggested. Was I bothered? Not in the least. It wasn't urgent, and in fact the item in question hasn't been used to this day! Once received, I left positive feedback. As you know, you have a limited number of characters... These are the exact words I left - Day "overdue", but...?! Simple, clever piece of kit, worth every £ - Cheers. 5* Note the word "overdue" in inverted commas, and the comment "but...?!", meaning "but hey! Who's bothered!" Move forward to a couple of days ago, and I tried to buy something else from the same seller. No, you won't. He's blocked my username! Dropped him a query as to why he'd taken this action....no reply. Yesterday, I thought I'd purchase the item through his website as opposed to eBay. Bought, paid, confirmed. 30 minutes later, a message saying that a full refund was being arranged! Dropped him an email last night, detailing the above....as suspected, no response! So there you have it - even though I left a full 5* positive feedback, he's still peeved that - in his mind - I've caused him grief by "daring" to comment other than in totally glowing terms! Pathetic...

    Energy price query

I have just checked my energy account with N power----it states that I have used 7% less fuel than this time last year-----and oh yes my standing order is going up from £77 /month to £92/month----this is on a fixed tariff ?
  25. They do exist, we both know they exist, as does everyone else. You can type a query into google and get several examples. Some of those examples have already been mentioned in this thread by myself, and others. I'm not your bitch, and I have no intention of trying to convince you or anyone else that black is in-fact not white, but really black! As someone who, evidently, is so concerned about what other people will think of their posts, you have to wonder, what does deliberately having to feign ignorance make *you* look like? "Desperate" is the answer I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. It is what it is and that's plain for anyone who cares to look and see. Given that Singapore was held up by Brexiteers as a potential model for Britain’s future, I wouldn't hold your breath re: workers rights. I know, ridiculous!
